Electric Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Sets EV Record at Nurburgring

By Jon Derrickson on June 11, 2013

The electric Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG set a new EV record at Nurburgring finishing the lap in 7 minutes 56 seconds. Not only is this the fastest time for an electric vehicle, but it is also the first electric vehicle to finish the lap in under 8 minutes. The record was previously held by the all electric Audi R8 e-Tron which made the lap in slightly over 8 minutes in July of 2012.

Similar to the version of the R8 e-Tron that previously held the record, the Electric Drive SLS is also powered by 4 seperate electric motors. This EV goes from 0-62 MPH in just under 4 seconds and has a top speed of 155 MPH.

The SLS AMG Electric Drive is expected to be available in June of 2013 (later this month) with a price tag of around $585,000.
