Though the previous speed of 261 mph (420 kmh) was considered quite fast, Bugatti boasts that it is nothing compared to the performance that will be delivered by its Chiron hypercar. The said vehicle, without a limiter, will reach 285 mph (458 kmh), provided it receives the perfect conditions.
According to engineering Boss Willi Netuschil, customers can also buy the car with a limiter if they prefer. Netuschil was quick to note that there are very few locations for a driver to experience the high speed of this hypercar, with it being impossible on public roads. He recommends that the Volkswagen Group’s track that is located near Wolfburg has been designed for demonstrating such high speeds.
Compared to other cars, the Chiron seems to be in a league of its own when it comes to performance. It features a quad-turbocharged 8.0 liter W16 engine and delivers 1,480 horsepower. It just needs 2.5 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 kmh). The vehicle has a top speed of 285 mph (458 kmh). However, these are specs without a limiter.
Bugatti currently holds the land speed record at 269.86 mph for a production car. The company was able to set the record through its Veyron Super Sport back in 2010. Though Guinness hasn’t officially verified the record, in theory the Chiron should be faster than the Veyron as well as the Venom GT (270.49 mph).
While the manufacturer doesn’t have any current plans for testing the top speed of the Chiron anytime soon, it might occur sometime later on.
