Tesla Is bringing SpaceX Performance Package to its Roadster

By Jon Derrickson on June 11, 2018

When the Tesla Roadster was announced, ‘WOW’ was the expression on most people’s face. But, it’s now been announced that the unveiling was just for the base model, and that a ‘SpaceX’ version is in the works. Elon Musk stated, “What we unveiled with the Roadster was the base model performance. It’s going to have a SpaceX options package. It’s crazy.”

The Tesla spearhead continued with…

“It’s important for us to show the Roadster that an electric vehicle can outperform a gasoline car in every way. Because gasoline cars still have sort of a halo effect, and I think if we can show can electric car can outperform a gasoline car in every way, then we sort of get rid of that halo effect of gasoline cars. I think that’s quite a powerful thing for the general public.”

For some, the announcement won’t come as a surprise. Last year, Musk put out on social media that the Roaster will receive a “special upgrade” which will “take it to the next level.” But, the car doesn’t exactly need any enhancement, and it will be incredible to see the specs.

You see, the base model can smash 0 to 62-MPH in a mere 1.9 seconds, and rack up a top speed of 250-MPH. The combination of three electric motors – that include a 200-kWH battery pack with 620 miles of range – generate more than 7,000 pound-feet of torque. That means the ‘SpaceX’ variant could push it well beyond hypercar status.

Keep your eyes out and ears to the ground; this isn’t a development to be missed!
