For those following the progress of BMW’s impact within the market, you’ll know the X2 offers several options depending on the needs of the buyer. However, the most powerful trim boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which leads to 258 lb-ft of torque and 228 horsepower. With an eight-speed automatic transmission, the power then comes together with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system for performance levels to which BMW fans and drivers have grown accustomed.
While this performance seems strong enough for our everyday needs, BMWBlog believes we could see an upgrade in the future which would include a considerable boost to power. Suggesting they received information from sources within the company, BMWBlog stated that the range will extend to include a different four-cylinder model. Rather than the existing four-cylinder B48, the engine would be more powerful and the model would be labeled as the 35i.
If the reports are to be believed, we could be looking at 300 horsepower; for the transmission, rumors suggest either an eight-speed automatic (the current option) or even a manual gearbox. Since this will be a large boost compared to existing models, the B48 in its new state would predictably become the norm for M Performance cars too.
Sticking with the news from BMWBlog, the same engine upgrades are also expected for the X1, the Grand Coupe (Series 1 and Series 2), and more. With the Grand Coupe in particular, the powerful engine is expected to make up for the loss of moving to a front-wheel drive (as opposed to a front-wheel-drive setup).
If you want to own an X2 and you can’t wait for these rumors to be confirmed or denied, remember you always have the option of the M Sport package. With this investment, your BMW will add 20-inch wheels, extra cabin detailing, and a lower suspension setup. Despite not having the same engine upgrade, it will allow you to reach 60 miles per hour in just over six seconds on the open road.
For now, we can’t confirm whether these rumors are true or not but BMWBlog has been a reputable source for all news BMW-related for some time. Furthermore, they cite sources within the company which makes it even more believable. Through all this, one thing is for certain; BMW still hasn't lost their ability to generate interest on a global scale so they deserve credit (as always!).
