Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Is Finally in the Works

By Steve Hampton on March 12, 2018

Rev your engines and get excited, because AMG boss, Tobias Moers, has finally confirmed that a GT Black Series is going into production, and should be released by 2020. The news was announced at the recent Geneva Motor Show, and they also revealed that another version will also be created, which will sit just above the GT R. Moers stated –

“There is a GT variant still left… We are on the journey, we started the journey for Black Series”

Of course, it is going to be manufactured to whizz round a track, which means you’ll be more likely to race against the clock than hit your local super-store for some groceries. But, if you were to do so, the Black Series would certainly turn heads. Although we haven’t been informed of any specs, it will surely have a more aggressive appearance and stronger performance than the R model.

In fact, AMG even said the Black Series will generate more power than the R. So, what does that mean? Well, the R has a bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that clocks up 577 BHP. Since that was released, AMG have forged a new engine which can produce 630 BHP, which they slotted into the GT 4-Door Coupe.

However, we’re not so sure it will be given that much power to handle, seeing as the Black Series will be given a RWD setup; it wouldn’t be entirely safe to have a tail-happy RWD swinging around corners with 630 BHP. Therefore, they’ll probably utilize something which meets in the middle, maybe 600 BHP?

Moreover, the Black Series will probably undergo a reduction in weight to further enhance the performance. The easiest and simplest way to do that is by adopting carbon fiber as your go to material, then immersing it everywhere around the car. Furthermore, the suspension, traction and steering should also receive improvements.

All we can say is – look forward to 2020 if you’re an AMG fan!
