Mercedes-Benz have finally teamed up with their luxury sub-brand – Maybach – to produce the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury SUV Concept. It was recently revealed at the Auto China show in Beijing. Rather than matching the competition, though, they’ve decided to go for something completely unique. They’ve combined SUV traits with the aesthetics of a sedan.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Boss at Mercedes, stated – “The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is a totally new archetype of a kind never seen before. Our concept combines the DNA of an SUV with that of a saloon to produce an ultra-modern SUV of three-box design.”
In terms of mechanics, they’ve gone for an electric powertrain with an all-wheel-drive system. They’ve incorporated an 80-kilowatt-hour battery which allegedly boasts of a 310-mile range. Impressive, eh? But, check this – they’ve also introduced fast-charging which can retrieve around 62 miles in just 5 minutes.
However, as it’s an electric motor, the speed has been capped at 155-MPH despite it generating 738-BHP. As for the design, it’s extremely beautiful with smooth lines, but possesses some aggressive features too. You could say it’s been influenced by both European and Western automotive culture. There’s a big chrome grill on the front with beefy fenders and large intakes.
Now, the luxury SUV aspect has definitely been achieved, but some have claimed it’s just like a sedan with raised suspension. The 24-inch rims certainly add an element of bling, with them being a multi-spoke, fan-like design. A chrome line stretches from the roof to the tail, splitting up the sun roof and rear window into two halves. Moreover, manufacturers have placed gorgeous, futuristic front and rear lights.
Let’s face it, Maybach’s audience is predominantly those that are super-rich and have chauffeurs to do the driving. That’s why they’ve placed extra focus on the rear space, as well as the cabin. There’s diamond-stitched, crystal-white fully adjustable seats with stunning Nappa leather. The rear console includes a lovely tea set with a heater to keep the drinks warm, as well as decorate flowers to go the extra mile.
You’ll find plenty of rose-gold trim around the interior, and eye-catching blue LED tints around the door panels. Those in the front will have a 12.3-inch display for infotainment purposes, and the driver will also have a 12.3-inch display behind the wheel with a ton of driving features.
More details will be announced later on down the line in terms of pricing, but you can expect a hefty price tag for such a luxury SUV.
