In a press release issued this morning, Toyota announced the recall of 270,000 model year 2006-2012 Lexus IS vehicles and over 750,000 model year 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles. While the problem underlying the Corolla recall is the potential for inadvertent airbag deployment, the Lexus IS is being recalled because Toyota fears its wiper arm nuts were not adequately tightened. As a result, when faced with the task of wiping heavy materials off the windshield—like snow for example—the car’s wipers may break.
Toyota plans on notifying owners of the vehicles affected by the recall via first class mail “in the near future.” At that time, owners will be instructed to bring their cars into their local Toyota or Lexus dealership for an inspection and a free repair. In the meantime, owners can obtain more information from Toyota.com/recall and Lexus.com/recall, or by calling 800-331-4331 for Toyota’s Customer Experience Center and 800-255-3987 for Lexus’ Customer Experience Center.
