New Custom VW Atlas Unveiled

By Tony Franklin on August 30, 2018

APR, based out of Opelika, Alabama, has been a national leader in tuning up Volkswagen and Audi vehicles. Last month (August 2018) they did it again building a custom-made VW Atlas with even greater horsepower and abilities to take it off-road.

This custom Atlas has a 2.0 TSI engine and is set up with improved 6-piston 350mm Performance Brakes and all-wheel-drive, giving this beast much more offroad potential. It started with a healthy 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. From there APR’s creative team raised the output to 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. They increased the power by attaching a factory IS38 turbocharger, which came originally from a VW Golf R. They also installed an ECU Upgrade Carbon Fiber Intake System, a Cast Race DP Exhaust System, Turbo Muffler Delete, Turbo Inlet Pipe, and a Catback Exhaust system that was custom fabricated - all made by APR. Along with a powertrain modification, these additions really give some power to this SUV.

Mitch Williams, APR’s CEO is thrilled with the project. “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work on this project to bring the Atlas 2.0T to the next level,” he said. “With 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque we’ve surpassed the output from even the larger V6 engine, and we’re working to push the envelope even further in the future. The combination of custom hardware and equipment from our current product line has really transformed the Atlas’ performance.”

The new Atlas has Toyo Open Country M/T 275/55/20 tires which needed an extra 1.5”. To make room for them, the CNC-machined new billet suspension pieces which lifted the Atlas off the ground enough for the tires to fit. APR also installed new trailing arms to go with the suspension. The wheels are Light-Weight S01 20x9-inch and come installed with wheel well/rock lights. The vehicle was covered in a custom-made Digital Precision vinyl wrap made in Alpharetta, Georgia.

This is a beautiful beast of a vehicle, and APR has announced that this is a one-off project - however, they are evaluating the potential it has for creating a new lineup of performance products involving the Atlas down the road.
