If you’re a Lamborghini owner or fan, Miami is the place to be for the next couple of days. As part of the brand’s 50th anniversary celebration, the Italian sports car manufacturer is unveiling its latest model—the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster. And because Lamborghini is well…Lamborghini, the unveiling is taking place over a period of ten days in Florida’s sunny South Beach. Yesterday was the first day of the event, and on the itinerary was a 40-car Lamborghini parade down Collins Avenue—a scenic highway that runs along Florida’s Atlantic coastline. After the parade, event attendees congregated at Miami International Airport to witness what Lamborghini called a “High-Speed Demonstration.”
For the demonstration, the automaker managed to convince the Federal Aviation Administration to shut down a runway at the busiest international airport in the United States. Then, as displayed in the above video, it sent 12 of the new Aventador Roadsters for a cruise down the airstrip. Though none of the convertibles actually took flight—what a surprise that would have been—several were clocked at speeds around 210-mph, which is well over the norm for the runway’s usual traffic (150-180-mph).
