Over the years, we’ve seen some of the same names return time and time again when it comes to the automobile industry. As technology continues to move forward and the demands of the consumers change, the industry has had to adapt and grow and it’s been an exciting journey to watch. For us, Jeep provides a supreme example and they have now released news of a brand new Grand Cherokee model to get us all excited. Today, we’re going to look deeper into the Trackhawk model as well as assessing Jeep’s other options on the market.
Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
Already being considered the ‘most powerful SUV’ available, the Trackhawk can be found for just under $86,000 which also makes it one of the most affordable too. After months of speculation, Jeep finally revealed more information about the new Grand Cherokee model and it’s fair to say the details didn't disappoint. With a 6.2-liter engine (V8), you’ll have over 700 horsepower underneath the gas pedal to get you around in style.
Although they won’t be making an appearance in the showrooms until around October, orders can now be placed with Jeep if you want to get your hands on the Trackhawk. As standard, you’ll benefit from 20-inch titanium-finished wheels, an impressive aero package, as well as stunning yellow Brembo brake calipers.
If we return to the price for just a moment, there’s a $1,000 difference when compared to the Challenger Demon with the Trackhawk coming out cheaper. On the flip side, it is more expensive than the Challenger Hellcat and Charger which are both found between $62,000 and $66,000. In terms of other manufacturers, most car fans like to compare the Grand Cherokee with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. As you may know, the latter has a hefty price tag of $116,500 and actually has significantly less horsepower at 520.
According to the CEO of Jeep, Mike Manley, the 2018 Grand Cherokee model offers performance as well as being aesthetically-pleasing. With the classic SRT engineering, you have the best driving dynamics around combined with the luxury of top-of-the-range equipment. At the price tag, it’s hard to find anything comparable in terms of power and speed and this is why we believe it’ll be so successful moving forward.
Of course, what would a new car be without a sprint test? Luckily, the manufacturers have provided us with this information and we can inform you that 0-60mph is achievable in under three and a half seconds. After this, it takes less than twelve seconds to reach a quarter mile and it can reach speeds of nearly 290kmh (180mph) in this time. Thanks to a TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission, the car glides through the gears with little effort and the power is evenly distributed to all four wheels for grip and balance. What’s more, it’s good news for those who tow regularly since it can handle up to 7,200 pounds (over 3,200kg).
As you can see (and probably tell from our enthusiasm), this new Grand Cherokee model has attracted our attention like none other recently. In the coming weeks, we can’t wait to see it in action and it’ll be interesting to see just how many people place an order and take an interest when it enters showrooms in the final quarter of 2017.
So there we have the Trackhawk, but what about the other current models available from Jeep? As we all know, the name is now a global brand and their models have been included in all sorts of ‘best cars ever’ lists so it’s always good to see where Jeep think the future is. First up, we have the new Jeep Compass.
Jeep Compass ($20,996)
Just recently released, the Jeep Compass is available in four different styles; Limited, Trailhawk, Sport, and Latitude. Before we head into the details though, it has already picked up numerous awards including the 2017 ASG Best Economic Performance Award in addition to the Northwest Outdoor Activity Vehicle of the Year. With these two awards under the belt, you can be confident in the model for your own needs.
According to Jeep, the whole model was designed and built from the ground upwards to be the ‘most capable’ SUV within its niche. With this in mind, they’ve introduced Jeep Active Drive; the Trailhawk option also has the Active Drive Low 4x4 system. With this in tow, you don't have to worry about any weather conditions because your Jeep will handle them all. In addition to this, you can also choose between ‘Sport’ and ‘Latitude’ models and these differ slightly with Latitude offering Stop/Start and larger wheels while Sport offers more colors.
Aside from performance, Jeep has also concentrated on safety and protection with this model and this is seen with over 70 safety features throughout the vehicle. For example, seven airbags is just the tip of the iceberg along with different active and passive safety features. If you’re planning on driving your family around, this could be the vehicle for you and you can have the peace of mind that everyone is protected once strapped in and travelling.
Jeep Renegade ($17,995)
A 2.4L Tigershark engine, leather-wrapped steering, leather-trimmed front seats, and a nine-speed automatic transmission; we could only be talking about the 2017 Renegade. Once again, you can choose between a number of different models depending on your needs including Trailhawk, Limited, Latitude, Sport, and two limited edition options (Desert Hawk and Altitude).
Compared to the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk we saw earlier, the difference in power is quite something with the Renegade boasting 180 horsepower but the Renegade excels in other areas. For example, its affordability makes it one of the best SUVs for those on a smaller budget. Inside, you’ll have ample storage for road trips as well as everyday use and the Uconnect 6.5 NAV means you’ll never get lost again (hopefully!).
With the Renegade, you have a choice of two systems where you can switch between four-wheel and two-wheel drive which is a fantastic design feature. Just as you would expect from any Jeep, it can also perform in all weather conditions safely. As we mentioned with the Compass, Jeep do pay attention to safety and this is seen yet again with Electronic Stability Control, the ParkSense Rear Park Assist System, Uconnect Access (with 9-1-1 call), and dozens of other features.
If you’re looking for an affordable Jeep that does all the basics well whilst also excelling in useful features, the 2017 Renegade should enter your list of considerations. As well as all the above, you also benefit from smaller additions such as LaneSense to keep you safe on the highway, Forward Collision Warning, and Blind Spot Monitoring. While features like this will never impact the performance of the vehicle, they certain make your experience that little bit easier.
Jeep Wrangler ($23,995)
As we all know, the Wrangler is the best model for adventure and the 2017 update just so happens to be a winner yet again. Designed for performance across a whole manner of terrains, the Wrangler is available in a variety of different styles all depending on what design you need and the purpose of the vehicle. For example, the Rubicon Recon Limited Edition model offers an open-style Wrangler while the Chief Limited Edition is more what you would expect from Jeep. After this, there are other limited edition vehicles including Big Bear, Willys Wheeler, Freedom, Smoky Mountain, and Winter. From here, we work our way down to the classic designs of Sahara, Rubicon, and Sport S.
According to FourWheeler, the Wrangler is the 4x4 of the Decade and it has also been noted as one of the best vehicles you can buy for resale value so it really is an investment rather than just a purchase. With 285 horsepower, you have plenty of power to climb those hills and control the declines; this is also helped by the superb Premium Off-Road Rock Rails with Tread Plates. For the more intensive tasks, you can also utilize the Winch-Capable Steel Bumpers. With Jeep calling the front axle ‘military-inspired’, this really is the vehicle for all weather, all terrains, and no hassle.
Jeep Patriot ($18,040)
Finally, the model perhaps best known for its aggressive exterior including the seven-slot grille and authentic design from top to bottom. Within an instant, even those who don’t know vehicles will say ‘Jeep’ after seeing the model; those with a keener eye will be impressed with the sheer attention to detail shown with the Patriot. As well as a capable exterior, the interior should be described as ‘spacious’ making it perfect for families who always seem to have luggage at every point throughout the year (vacation or no vacation).
With a 2.0 cylinder World Engine, you should go 30 miles to the gallon on the highway which means all your adventures can be extended. On one full tank, Jeep believes 400 miles to be a perfectly attainable goal which makes the Patriot affordable, efficient, and a superb option alongside all other Jeep models. As we’ve seen all the way through, they also provide dozens of safety features (were you really expecting anything different?).
Furthermore, you can choose the design that best suits your needs from High Altitude, Latitude, Sport SE, and Sport. As with all other Jeep vehicles we’ve assessed today, these models all offer something different whether it’s the transmission, engine, available colors, or interior functions such as heated seats.
Summary
Despite being in business for over seven and a half decades now, Jeep still manages to find new ways to keep the industry fresh and exciting. Whether it’s the 2018 Grand Cherokee Trackhawk or any of the 2017 models we’ve looked at today, Jeep excels and offers something for everyone. What makes Jeep even more impressive is the sheer amount of customizable options you can enjoy regardless of the vehicle you choose. Whether it’s the color, interior features, exterior features, or even the performance, you can almost build your own model so it meets your needs both now and long into the future.
For now, let’s keep on appreciating the work Jeep does for the industry and keep an eye on the popularity of the new Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Will it reach expectations? Will it manage to live up to the hype provided (mostly by us) so far? Although we can’t be certain, Jeep’s positive track record could certainly suggest upcoming success.
