Hummer Past and Present
By Tony Franklin on August 29, 2018
The word “Hummer” is synonymous with “Durable.” Built to traverse any terrain from Icy Mountains to Desert Valleys, the Hummer is the military vehicle par excellence. A used H1 has vast potential as a recreational vehicle by itself, but Mil-Spec, of Wichita Kansas, is bringing the military classic up to modern standards.
The Launch Edition No. 003 begins with a four-door, hardtop pickup with a frame-off restoration in this new Launch Edition. They have added eight inches to both the front and the rear track. Inside they have put a 6.6-liter turbocharged diesel V8 engine which gives this great road dominator 500 horsepower and the power of 1000 lb-ft of torque. Inside the Hummer is marine-grade waterproof hand-stitched leather and a custom sound system and dashboard.
This arrangement of factory options displays a minimalist philosophy in the Launch Edition No. 003. It was built directly through the Mil-Spec Executive team as a showcase of the streamlined Launch Edition package. It is the first “factory direct” Hummer available directly to the general public by Mil-Spec Automotive. It is a satisfactory tribute to all the years of service the H1 has given, both public and private.
