Vehicle Overview

One of the last survivors. Great investment. This garage kept, driver quality, 1978 99T was sold new at Sports Car Centre where it was delivered to it's first owner who meticuously maintained it. The second owner, who we aquired it from bought it in 2014 and lived in Long Island, N.Y. It is a very clean rust free car that has had one total repaint by the original owner and has service records since new in a laminated binder. In 2015 the last owner replaced the clutch, cylinder head gasket and various docummented maintenance items.

Saab's 99 Turbo changed the landscape overnight, proving to a delighted world that "practical" and "exciting" did not have to occupy opposite sides of the bed. Today, the 99 lives a bit in the shadow world between the early two-stroke and V-4 cars that came before, and the later 900 that was so good, it led thousands to jump on the Scandinavian bandwagon
One of the things that made the 99 Turbo so appealing then, and makes it such a desirable collector car today, is that Saab got the formula so right from the start. Nothing in its day, regardless of price, could match its combination of speed, comfort, reliability, frugality and load-swallowing capacity, and Saab's engineers made sure the technology worked in a way that required nothing special from the driver, and kept working reliably. Automotive journalists lost their heads; Road & Track advised its readers, "It's so much fun to drive, the price is irrelevant!"
The Turbo has its roots in one of the most characterful and appealing small sedans of the 1960s, the timeless 99. The 99, introduced for the 1969 model year, was a clean-sheet design intended to broaden Saab's appeal beyond those who had discovered the delights of its tough, idiosyncratic 95 wagons and 96 coupes. The new monocoque body, styled by Sixten Sason, provided sufficient room for five, and its immense strength offered unsurpassed rollover protection.
Saab was certainly not...
